AC/DC Album Re-Design
Swinburne University
Here the brief was to conceive, develop and design a ‘Special Edition’ vinyl package for a specific artist and album. We could select any album we liked with two major conditions: the album design must incorporate the artist and album name and track listing, and the concept, image design and branding must be completely original. It was also important the design reflected the nature and feel of the music and the artist. I chose AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’.

Inner Gatefold Design
I chose to create a design in the style of classic black-and-white horror films, which I thought was a good fit for Back in Black — with overt themes of horror and violence in certain tracks and the theme of death influencing the album as a whole (as their previous lead singer, Bon Scott, died not long before the album’s production). However, the vintage, dated style makes these kinds of films funny and slightly cheesy today, injecting the design with a sense of humour - another thing AC/ DC are known for. This creates a balance between acknowledging and respecting Scott, while also showing that the band weren’t going anywhere after his death.
